Gwen Smid teaches English at Nepean High School in Ottawa, Ontario. She is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and now lives in Wakefield, Quebec, with her husband and two wee daughters. The family like to canoe, puzzle over Star Wars puzzles, and read lots and lots of books. In order to feel rested, Gwen drinks copious amounts of tea and often throws her alarm clock out the window. She has select tea cups for select days, and she has lots and lots of alarm clocks. Gwen’s writing has won awards and has appeared in short story anthologies, newspapers, and academic journals. Her Mary’s Atlas books are popular with teachers because of their value as supplementary curricula resources.
